VERY QUIET

Two possibilities, the old hotel, very comfortable, and the new, modern and functional, very good value for money in both cases. Very good breakfast and friendly service. The only qualms in the new one are the tubs, girls and very slippery, as one goes into decline, and the handles are poorly set and very low. Very good possibility to stay in Combarbala.

It may be better

The regular assigned room; had the window facing the hallway without insurance. The hard door to open.
Being all paired, it is felt when they flush the bathroom and it emits a lot of noise. Everything is very basic. They still have plastic bath curtains that run in a few tubes of the shower, I did not give confidence their cleanliness. There is no towel to put on the floor.
The place is clean but not observed to be spotless.
On the shelf type closet without doors 2 hangers.
Breakfast was cold, lattes requested, and cold milk, you're not even asked if you need anything. They put an unheated cold marquette on you. Two slices of jerky, one slice of salami and two slices of yellow cheese and they offer you scrambled eggs.
The car stays outside, without any protection on the roof in the heat that it is there. It wasn't nice that place.

OK as stop-off.

We booked 2 nights in 2 rooms at Hostal Apuwara though booking.com for our Chile tour. We'd come hoping to visit the Observatory, but it was closed unexpectedly due to rain-damage of the mechanism.
The town itself is small with a few shops, bars & restaurants. We arrived at night, where most were closed. We did find a restaurant for evening meal, but if you do arrive in the evening, plan ahead. HA doesn't serve evening food.
Check in was straightforward. Accommodation is in a separate block from the reception and breakfast area (across the road), where there is also private parking.
The rooms themselves are basic but clean & reasonably comfortable. One of ours (1) was very cold at night, despite an electrical heater which was ineffective. Showers were hit & miss with temperature. Beds have multiple blankets rather than duvet.
Breakfast was simple but very good. Coffee, juice on one day but not the other, fresh bread, cheese & processed ham. Same for everyone, served at the table.
It's fine as a stop off when visiting the area and priced accordingly.

A little gem in the Norte Chico

Overall excellent Hostel. WHAT they show is what you experience, that is a great attribute in Chile! Very nice rooms, very nice patio, very nice city.
Just try not to book rooms 1,2,3,4. They are very close to the breakfast area and the living terrace. All very discreet after 10 PM that is. 2nd floor is better. Very friendly staff, but you don't necessarily have to follow their restaurant suggestions, unless you like raegeton!

Pleasant experience

Excellent place, very cozy, excellent service, has parking, very nice decoration in super mystical rooms, everything very clean, very delicious breakfast, we only had one problem with hot water but it was solved quickly by calling reception.
