The Best. Hostel. In Chile.
How do I even begin to describe what an amazing experience we had here at the Gecko Hostel?? We came to Pucón for 3 days and ended up staying here over a month - and it's entirely because of the warm, inviting hospitality of Capitán David and the rest of the crew of the Gecko.
In terms of facilities this is the best hostel we stayed at in Chile. Enormous, fully stocked kitchen, many bathrooms and showers with endless hot water, and large, comfortable rooms that are a treat to come back to at night.
But what really makes the hostel one-of-a-kind are the people. David, Veronica, Nazca, Sophie, Carlos, Negro, and a whole cast of other colorful characters whose lives have become intertwined with the Gecko bring a unique and amazing flavor of *real* Chile right to your door. Whether it's a spin around the lake and an ice-cold plunge in the water in David's boat, or a hike up El Cañi with Veronica, or a stargazing evening with Omar, or a Friday night asado with pizcola and cumbia until 2 AM - the crew and friends of the Gecko make it their business to always have a damn good time and you are welcome to come along for the ride.
Do yourself a favor - book yourself a week here at the hostel and you will be guaranteed to have an incredible time. David, thanks for everything

Dismal experience
a lot of noise, screaming, partying and excessive alcohol after midnight, a lot of heat on the second floor lacks ventilation, single bed for children disarmed in the middle of the night, administrator does not answer the phone or answer messages.

Great for backpackers
I stayed here with two of my friends and was pleasently suprised at the cleanliness and facilities offered by a hostel for such a cheap price. The rooms are nice and clean, as well as the bathrooms, kitchen and lounge area. On friday nights the staff organize a bbq and a little party which is a good way to meet other like minded people.
Wifi works well.
Location is perfect, on the outskirts of town but still only a 2 minute walk to the center.
Had a few problems checking in due to the system but this was sorted by the staff apon arrival.

Chill atmosphere with good price quality ratio
Super layed back hostel with easy going owner. Perfect for backpackers. Not the best organized of them all but therefore super relaxed. Good price quality ratio. we had a great time. The town is very small so even though it's more at the side of town you're on the main street in 3 min.

Homelike ambiance and best asado parties!
Cozy environment, nice people, comfortable beds, big kitchen, weekly asados.. what else would anybody need in a hostel?
I initially planned to stay a couple of nights, but for one week, every morning was prolonging my stay.
In my opinion, the best thing about this place is the atmosphere: muy buena onda! Maybe the rooms are a bit narrow, and the breakfast is not included in the price.. But these two tiny faults can be easily overlooked if you feel there like home.
