Peaceful and relaxing Onsen and Ryokan experience
The onsen experience was amazing and I felt so relaxed afterwards. There are the communal baths (separated by male/female) and there are also private baths (on a first come basis).
The location is perfect, the hotel is literally across the road from Gora station, which is also the same station you can take the cable car up to the ropeway/Owakudani.
There are some good cafes in the area (use Google Maps) and the Hakone open air museum is either a short walk or 1 stop on the train.
The grounds of the Ryokan were beautiful too, it felt so peaceful. Do the walls need a coat of paint? Yes, but this wasn’t a dampener. I had the best sleep too!
Food is traditional Japanese (if you are not a seafood fan you may struggle) if you opt for half board (breakfast and dinner) and there is plenty of it! I ate so much as I wanted to show appreciation. The chef spoiled us. Staff overall were lovely and helpful.
My only feedback is that breakfast is served early so no sleep ins and no coffee served at breakfast but this is easily fixed as there is a communal room available to guests with tea and coffee machines.

It would be great if it wasn't for the food.
A separate performance is a traditional dinner. It's made up. With several servings- appetizers, appetizers, main course, dessert. One of the main "things" is that you cook part of the food yourself in boiling water. You have to throw vegetables and mushrooms in there and eat them almost immediately from there hot. Do the same with thin pieces of beef (or in another dinner option - with salmon) - lower for 30 seconds until the meat changes color and eats. They say you can't get hot raw - but it's the raw mushrooms with the vegetables you eat hot. Meat would be better fried. In fact, eat expensive, lightly boiled beef. The sushi was delicious.
At the end was dessert with hot green tea. The clay cup was cracked and crumbled itself on my desk. Removed and replaced by another with cracks. He asked me to change it again - the third time the cup was whole.
And the reason I'm writing a review and why the grade isn't five. At night, my raw-eating body began to reject writing and tormented me from 2 to 6 a.m. until it all worked out. I didn't get any sleep. Breakfast is early and short - until 9 or 15. Decided not to risk sleeping with him until at least 10, but it somehow called 9:14 to see if I was having breakfast and woke me up.
As a result , if you have questions about your stomach and intestines , then do not risk and do not buy dinner. It's not worth it- more performance than food. And you'll save your body and save money.
You can eat at the restaurant. Expensive, but you may not have to cook it yourself.

Excellent resort, but with a few quirks Americans should be aware of
The rooms are very nice, in a traditional Japanese Ryokan style. There were also various traditional Japanese Onzen which are hot spring communal bathing experiences. The views are incredible! And I especially liked the hot spring tub that we had on our patio.
I found it very charming that, while staying at the hotel, unless you were going out, you were directed to wear the robes and traditional sandals throughout the resort.
Staying at the hotel also includes breakfast and dinner, both of which are very traditional Japanese food, served over multiple multiple multiple multiple courses. After staying here for three nights, I couldn’t eat anything more, even though the food was generally good, because there was just so much of it and I felt bad that there was so much food waste.
The staff was very helpful, but their English is not great (more of me problem than a them problem, but still).
While it is good that this hotel is right at the train station, this does mean the trains are running all day and night, including a railroad crossing that dings very often. This makes it somewhat difficult to sleep in. Also, our room faced the eastern sun, and since there’s only the paper sliding doors between us and the outdoors, the morning sun came in around 5:30 in the morning every morning.
