Comfortable and economical hotel in a handy location

This hotel was just what we needed. A good location with an entrance to the MRT, the Singapore underground, right outside the front door. It's no five star hotel but very comfortable and clean for a very reasonable room rate. We would use it again if we go back to Singapore.

Don’t expect too much from a budget hotel. It’s just decent 3 star hotel. There’s no pool or gym for this hotel so if you don’t mind that then it probably work well for you. We needed to carry 3 large suitcases up the steps on our own, and no one helped us or opened the door. The reception personnel was just okay (nothing spectacular) but as we check out the bell boy was nice enough to open the door and help us carry our 3 large suitcases.
The room is roomy and free of odours, however the amenities is only a toothbrushes and toothpaste. Do bring your own shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. They do not supply shampoo or conditioners. They do have body wash, but it feels like a low-quality shower gel (if you're not particular, use it). We have sensitive skin, we brought our own shower gels. We didn't have any hand soap in the room until the housekeepers cleaned it (she probably added it while cleaning). The beds were not hard but firm, which was nice, and they provided two small water bottles.
The location was rather convenient. It is directly in front of the Bencoolen MRT station (Blue Line). There are also various cafes and eateries in the close by. If you are not picky and wish to stay in a budget and decenr central location, this hotel may be suitable for you.

A hotel to avoid.

This hotel is shabby. The room was okay but to get into the bathroom you had to step over a raised section in the doorway. The tile grouting was covered in black mold. To reach the toilet paper you needed to dislocate your shoulder. No hand towels, had to ask for tissues.

The location is very good, The MRT is only 1 minute away. This why that I reserved this hotel. The hotel staff are also friendly and politely. When my stay was over, I also can store my luggage here and eating out. Many thanks.

A no frills hotel that solidly delivers on the basics

No frills hotel that delivers solid basics. The standard room was larger that most found in boutique hotels around Singapore. We stayed during F1 weekend in 2025 and appreciated how spacious the room was with the basic comforts needed for a good stay in SG -- good water pressure, hot/cold shower, basic amenities, strong aircon, comfortable bed and a warm duvet. It's location is also unbeatable.
The standard rooms can use a little sprucing up, but otherwise, the Strand is good value for money. The staff is helpful and nice.
