Perfect first stop in Spain
Di & Roger have created a very homely atmosphere with their dogs and pretty gardens beckoning you to the cooling pool and sun terraces overlooking the mountains and stunning sunsets.
The small town of Corzola is classic old Spain with a stunning Castle perched above, and vibrant squares with cafés and tapas bars to enjoy.
A short drive through town takes you to the top of the mountain at 1300 metres where we enjoyed a picnic overlooking the majestic vultures soaring around us. A birdwatchers paradise with wild flowers and pink peonies too.
We thoroughly recommend this homely retreat and look forward to our return.

All you could want and more
The Natural Park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas is on the doorstep where all the delights of nature, wildlife, scenery and more are at hand. One can see how mountains were formed and are still being sculpted by erosion and by man. One can see vultures circling over your head as in the cartoons of the man lost in the desert, yet not be worried. At the Centro de Interpretación de Madera at Vadillo Castril, one can see how and why this area was created a “maritime province” so far from the sea, followed, in more recent times, by how it facilitated the development of the railways in Spain. Visit the birthplace of the great Rio Guadalquivir and many other "secret" places in the areas not open to the general public by taking one of the 4x4 guided tours. In the courtyard of the castle of Segura de Sierra there are various displays of how life used to be and how they coped in olden times, followed by lunch in the village, itself. There are many other interesting villages to explore, all within easy reach.
Yet, as if this were not enough, one is close to two UNESCO World Heritage sites, Baeza and Úbeda both full of history. A little farther away, to the south, in Guadix and its surrounds, one is into Troglodyte country, where houses are carved into the soft clay (which then hardens into a rock-like substance,) to give homes that are cool in summer but warm in winter. To the North there is more to interest one with the Natural Park de Despeñaperros (where they throw dogs) reputed to be where the Christians threw the bodies of the Moors following the battle at Navas de Toloso. The old road that passes through the defile offers some stunning scenery, now without the traffic since the opening of the new road.
There are also several more Natural Parks within easy reach, the Sierra Mágina and the Sierra de Andujar to the west and the northwest respectively, then crossing over into Granada province to the southeast, there are the Sierra de Castril which adjoins the Natural Park of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas and the Sierra de Baza. There is much, much more to see and to do, all you need is the time. In a couple of months we will be staying there again and are very much looking forward to it.

A fantastic find!
My children are tiny - two under two - so the position of the pool made it feel very safe as it is pretty much enclosed in its own area. It is a stunning pool and the terrace is perfect for relaxing and the gardens provided some welcome shade for breakfast.
In fact, we were so happy at the apartment we almost forgot to visit Cazorla! But of course we couldn't miss out on the famous tapas and Spanish traditional nightlife and made a few excursions to see some of the town and really should have made more as its a wonderful place but we were so happy in the Cortijo that we'll put that on ice for the next trip!
Thanks to the Birches so much for such a wonderful holiday and being the hosts with the most....We'll be back!
