Fantastic hotel the neglected stables are a BIG disappointment
Overgrown neglected this really lets your hotels high standards down
We have enjoyed many times hiring horses here as it is riding directly onto the beach
Very sad the horses here have gone

Africa within reach
The rooms are a bit old, and the horses from the nearby stable are easily audible – but this also gives the place its own character. In good weather, the view to Africa, Morocco, is impressively clear. The food at the hotel was rather simple, which is why we liked to eat in the town.
Overall a nice place with a special atmosphere and a highly recommended experience.

Impolite staff and terrible room
During our previous trip to Tarifa we visited the hotel Dos Mares. Upon seeing the bungalows we decided to stay here during our next trip to Tarifa.
When booking we paid around 200 euros per night for a superior room with 2 adults, 1 child and 1 dog. The booking we made directly at the hotel after some back and forth emailing.
Dogs are very welcome in the hotel. They are allowed in the bar, restaurant and on the beach. The hotel charges 10 euros per night for a dog. Beware of dog owners because there are also a lot of cats in the hotel.
Dos Mares is a real Spanish hotel. You notice this in the many Spaniards who stayed there. Most seemed to know the staff from previous stays, too.
Staff reception:
We arrived an hour earlier than planned and our room turned out to be ready. The check-in went smoothly and the 2 ladies behind the desk provided us with the necessary explanation, so no complaints from these 2 ladies.
One night we were already asleep at 10pm when suddenly there was a very loud knock on the window. Our dog was startled and started barking loudly. Our four-year-old daughter woke up in a panic. When I went to look at the window, there was no one to see.
I went to the reception the next morning to report this incident. The lady who was sitting there (not seen before during our holiday) so to speak knew of more she said. There would have been a problem with the water and the bartenders wanted to report it to us. When I asked why no one was at the window, she laughed this off and said she had no idea. Then I told her that our four-year-old daughter was very upset about this and I didn't think this was professional from the hotel staff. Again she laughed this off and sent me for a walk with an excuse.
When exchanging the bath towels, the same receptionist again as above. Apparently being friendly really takes a lot of effort for madam. When I try to ask for new towels in Spanish she turns her eyes and throws the new towels on the counter without saying a word.
For us, a feeling that as a non-Spanish tourist you are inferior.
Room:
As mentioned earlier, we had booked the superior room. We got a room located next to the pool. The room was clean with a big bed and big shower in the bathroom. However, when we walked in, we immediately met a fungal smell. The smell of fungus was so bad that we went to a supermarket to buy fragrance sticks. After about 3 days the smell was already a lot better so we suspect that the room had not been ventilated for quite some time. Also, every morning the windows were completely fogged with moisture.
About the bed I can be very brief. Extremely bad! Both my wife and I got up every morning with back pain. Every half hour I had to twist because you could feel the springs pushing out of the mattress.
With this bed we found this room a real shame and not worth the word superior.
Staff restaurant + bar:
If I have to mention 2 things that were good about the hotel then it is the location and staff of the restaurant. These people were always friendly and very helpful. Our daughter is allergic to EI and whenever we had a question about the food they definitely checked. Even with the smile. Actually, as it should be and the opposite of the receptionist.
Conclusion:
This hotel is way too expensive for what it is. This is the 3rd hotel we stayed in in Tarifa in less than 2 years. Unfortunately, this was our worst experience. Fortunately this was not our first hotel because we have lost our hearts in Tarifa and would like to come back here.
