An apart, quiet hotel with style

A really nice little hotel. The rooms are individually cozy and absolutely sufficient in size. The pantry kitchen in the hallway is just fantastic. Tea, coffee or even making a “stulle” is no problem. Every morning there was a delicious breakfast with freshly prepared egg dishes, which were requested beforehand by the friendly staff. The location of the hotel is very central and there is parking! I've been there 4 times and it wasn't the last time.

Disappointing Accommodation

Stayed here on Leger holiday. Hotel was in a lovely location let down with basic out of date rooms uncomfortable beds and pillows. No choice on food at dinner as we were with a group.
Their rules on drinks - can’t have a small beer on terrace only have one wine glass given with a carafe of wine refused to give another one all to make more money, very annoying. Also don’t allow guests to put anything on your room everything paid up front.

Not worth the price you pay - still overall a nice place

Overall nothing really to complain: parking for free directly on the property, friendly greeting at the front desk. Rooms are nice but honestly nothing special at all. Size is standard, interior standard even though relatively new, small bath room.
All clean.
Pictures on the wall, TV, fridge, cattle, etc - all normal / standard, can't see anything special which would explain the very high price (more than Euro 170/night including breakfast). Funny even at this high price they are charging for the Nespresso capsules extra!! This should be complimentary as in other hotels in this price range globally. As such, we bought what we needed at the supermarket which is a one minute walk away.
Breakfast: nice and standard / average. Nothing really to complaint but you should consider some sweet rolls / chocolate croissants as well. Couldn't trace those.
Keys: annoying! They had a new chip system.... Took a while every time to open and lock the door. What's wrong with a card or the good old fashioned key?!:-)
Location is very good, 5 min walk to the beach, 1 - 5 minutes walk to various Bars, Restaurants, supermarket, ATM, etc.
For us really more a "Guest house" rather than a "Hotel", not sure why they call it a that bearing in mind that most of the Baltic Sea or North Sea are called "Pension" which offers a furnished apartment. What extra is offered (considering that nobody is at the front desk most of the time)? Remains a mystery..
Conclusion: no serious complaints but the price is way too high without any justification. For our next visit we would choose a different place for a more reasonable price, there are plenty of options at this lively town in Gromitz.

Fawlty towers with modern nice appartments

We stayed at Hotel Seemöwe for 8 days in July 20015 with our two children aged 1,5 and 3.
The hotel and apartments were central and of a higher standard, sadly the same could not be stated regarding customer care/service. The hotel and reception are situated at a different location than the appartments that we stayed in. I have not reviewed the hotel in this review- only the appartment building.
My review is sectioned In two- my impression of the service/employee first, and then a review of the apartment (Seemöwe haus) to the end.
Customer care/Service:
My/our biggest mistake was to book this hotel via www.booking.com which turned out to be a red cloth in the face of the owner. Unfortunately for us, upon arrival, there had been an error somewhere in the system between www.booking.com and the hotel during the booking/reservation process made nearly a year earlier. The error materialized itself by presenting us with a smaller one bedroom apartment instead of a two bedroom apartment, and to a higher price.
Even though we had an electronic voucher stating we had booked a two bedroom apartment (from booking.com), there were no help to spot from the owner behind the desk. He behaved in a rather arrogant manner and were severely un-professional in his treatment of us- the guests.
The error that the owner himself described as "our problem" as “Booking customers” brought back memories to the hilarious 70`s series Fawlty towers- and Mr. Basil Fawlty himself. The unwillingness regarding to solve the situation, and lack of customer care was almost unbelievable for this 4 star hotel. Ironically behind the owner, in the reception, a diploma made out to the Seemoeve Hotel from www.booking.com describing “outstanding rating” shined towards us- “8,9 out of 9 stars satisfaction!”
We rang www.booking.com for assistance several times regarding this matter, but they were not able, after several calls to the hotel to help us- we were truly stranded and started to get very exhausted by situation.
We soon learned why we were treated by second class guests paying the same top dollars/euros as the “normal guest”. The hotel/ owner very much disliked www.booking.com`s high fees and let us know how much they were set back with every booking and cancellation. Why should this be in a customer’s interest to know? Why put your hotel out on booking machines if you dislike this practice?
As it was high season, tired children, and hard to find another place to stay we agreed to accept the smaller apartment for a higher price and complain in writing to www.booking.com when we got home to Norway. You should think that that`s the end of the story- oh no! In order to get our “new” room they now wanted us to cancel our original booking online in order to save the hotel from the www.booking.com`s fee so the hotel could claim a “no show”! I explained that I do not want to lie to booking.com so the hotel could save their fee.
In the end we stayed our eight days in Groemitz/Seemöwe in a smaller apartment for a higher fee- but the relation to the hotel staff and irritation were hanging over us during the whole stay.
The hotel has got a high review at www.tripadvisor.com , booking.com and several other sites on the net and were truly a contrast to our researched impression. Most of the hotel guests are German and I can imagine that the majority booked their stay directly to the hotel. I assume they all got the right treatment since they had probably booking directly to the hotel/ or the booking were free of errors.
The diploma mentioned earlier in this review from www.booking.com had vanished next time we visited the reception- and for me it could only be Interpreted as a total meltdown for the Seemoeve/Booking.com relationship.
From all the reviews read at ww.tripadvisor.com there were only one review with the same experience as ours- a German with an almost identical experience.
My advice is therefore this:
If you want to stay in this hotel, book through the hotel and NEVER from www.booking.com unless you would like the old Basil Fawlty experience/second class guest experience.
Please bring cash as the hotel do NOT(!!) accept ANY foreign credit cards. The reception is also only partial open during the day (not 24hrs)
The only positive to be said about the reception were that one of the female employee could communicate in Danish and English.
From my travel experience in almost 70 countries for work/pleasure this is truly the most bizarre non existing service experience in any hotel/guesthouse during my carrier as a consumer/guest.
Seemöwe haus:
Despite our experience above the standard of the apartment were good. We stayed in a nice apartment with one bedroom delicately furnished and stood out as quite modern. There were a large terrace surrounding the apartment securing sun all day, and a good view of the lively main street in Groemitz only meters away.
Living room:
Lightly painted walls, white comfortable chairs, a sleeping couch, a newer flat screen Samsung TV 23”, DVD-player, and a stereo. Mainly German channels. We used the HDMI input for playing kids show from a pc. All the windows in the apartment were fitted with electrical shades to cool of the rooms when sunny. A small “bar” were fitted in the end of the kitchen sections with 2 bar stools. The carpet were light grey- not ideal for people bringing small children. There were small details that reminded you that you were close to the sea- shells, pictures, a seagull etc- Nice!
Bathroom:
Modern designed bathroom with nice shower and toilet. A tinted small rectangular window from the bedroom besides let some of the natural lights get into the bathroom. This was a nice feature, although unpractical at night when the bathroom lights would lit up the bedroom. Not a must when changing diapers during nighttime.
Bed room:
A large 160cm bed (two beds connected) with comfortable sheets and pillows. Arts on the wall from local artists. Lots of space for clothing and direct entry to the terrace. There were even a safe fitted in the room.
Kitchen area integrated in the living room:
Equipped with integrated refrigerator/freezer/microwave/water kettle/coffeemaker and a small stow. The cupboards were well equipped with everything you need to make food in this apartment.
WIFI:
Free Wifi, although slow.
Surroundings:
There is several restaurants within 3-100 meters of the entrance including a Italian restaurant at the ground floor. It is 5 minutes’ walk down to the beach and beach promenade. Several bakeries, pubs, supermarkets banks/ATM are also nearby.
Parking:
Parking in the backyard of the premises, one space for each apartment.
Thank you for reading review.
