We would gladly return again.

We booked the "Railway & Technology" arrangement to experience the HSB. Railway room with a view of the locomotive shed and station as an additional highlight. We cannot complain about the room, service, restaurant, and cleanliness. Everything was satisfactory. Also, short distances to the city center and pedestrian zone (central location). We can only thank and recommend this hotel if one wants to experience the Harz narrow-gauge railway.

Times 3 days Wernigerode, Overnight near the center, Mid-range. You can do that here. Rooms and beds ok, dog allowed, everything clean, wet room as a cell without windows. Safe and remote control of the TV unusable, as the batteries are obsolete. Rooms are easily accessible by lift. The bed is under a slant and with 180cm body height has to come to terms, when coming in and out. You really don't have to eat at the hotel: The delicious generous roast wild boar was garnished with 7 cardboard dry executed rose sprouts, which spaetzle stuck to as a complete cardboard pile and wanted to be cut with the knife. The Aperol before was tired, not cold enough and lovelessly bead-free. I prefer not to describe the dessert of the 3-course menu. Breakfast is in the same nice ambience, 4 women are just there without any kindness or a smile in the morning. The rolls are baked themselves, are attractive and crispy on the outside, sticky porridge on the inside. When we arrived at 9:30 a.m., not only was the butter running out. There was no bread at that time. The coffee comes in prepared pots and was really cold, so we had to intervene. There's plenty of room for improvement. 10am Breakfast end is also too early for us. We were accepted, but when the wiping and cleaning is done all around and the dishes clink, you flee.
The courtyard was parked. Parking across the street was a good alternative. You advertise by visiting the smoking steam locomotives. In the evening and at night, the fire brigade or police drove through the connecting road with howling several times, which was already like a big city.

Lovely room, nice and warm as very cold outside. Plenty of storage.
Had reserved a table for 2 nights in restaurant 6 months before our stay and requested a table in the window, only had this one night and then was put in the back room which has no atmosphere. Menu quite limited there used to be fish but that has been removed. Breakfast is good providing you don’t go late otherwise fruit has all gone. Ran out of corn flakes and English tea whilst we were there. Only one teapot has a lid.
Location though is excellent.

Great location

This was our second visit to stay here for 4 nights. Girl on check in was very friendly. We had booked to eat in the restaurant for 2 nights and specified a table in the window, however we could only have this for one night and were in the back room for the other night which was disappointing, as we had booked many months ago and there was a free table.
Menu not as good as before, no fish option. I had the chicken both nights and portions were so different to each other.
Breakfast is ok but after day one the corn flakes ran out and weren’t replaced, fruit runs out quickly and there’s only one teapot that has a lid.

Hotel Altora (helltora)

Visited the Hatz mountains with the Northants Morris minor owners club and part of the trip took us to the restaurant of this hotel. There were 17 of us 2 with food allergies. All food choices were made weeks in advance so the staff should have been well prepared. Upon our arrival we had drinks and sat on one long table. After an hour no food had been served. Complaints to the staff appeared to fall on deaf ears. We were adjacent to the main restaurant seating are and could clearly see people who had arrived after us being served but again complaints fell on deaf ears. When the food finally arrived it was cold for most if not all of us. 2 of the party who had the food allergies later became ill. Service was rubbish no snacks were offered to appease us and certainly no apology. They did however find the time to offer us drinks at our cost no complimentary drinks or drinks at reduced cost were offered. The impression i got was that we were English and treated as second class citizens a feeling felt throughout that region from some of the locals. I had served in the forces in Osnabruck Germany and generally found the locals friendly if you try and meet them half way but here i found some rude even though i tried to exercise my limited German. Overall a very poor account all round and for those of us who were visiting Germany for the first time it left a poor impression.
