Staff very accommodating for a change in plans. I also had sent to the hotel some sports equipment, and everything was seating for me at their baggage storage room. Excellent breakfast. Bed felt a little strange at first but I had a good night sleep. Was lucky to get a room that sees the northern lights cathedral.

good location

Hotel booked by the tour operator I traveled with.
Good location near the center and the cathedral with futuristic architecture.
The room and bathroom were sufficiently spacious by Norwegian standards. I only stayed one day, but the reception staff seemed numerically inadequate for the capacity of the facility. Dinner a bit disappointing...

The hotel itself is well located, very clean, modern with a good bathroom but the restaurant is over-priced. The steak was good quality but not worth 500 krona (74 Australian dollars). The “trout” was not pale enough even for salmon trout it was definitely salmon and tasteless so it was farmed. The check-in staff were ok but not exactly falling over themselves to be nice and helpful. The hotel itself has good facilities and was spotlessly clean. The cleaning staff were very chatty and welcoming. Ok go an overnight but there are many other places offering food which on reflection we should have used.

I am an 78 year old pensioner and am surprised that there were no safety handles
for getting into the bathtub to have a shower.

INCOMPETENT YOUNG WAITRESS
The Thun Hotel in Alta (although comfortable and clean, with spacious rooms) provided us with a treatment that we did not like at all (and not just us, but also our travel companions). We asked for bread at dinner, only to be told that "it is an extra and must be paid for" (those who took it paid 5 euros for 4 or 5 slices of bread!).
The same young waitress, with peremptory and inappropriate tones, while I was about to pour a sugar-free drink into my glass (because I am diabetic), abruptly told me: "You cannot do that; if you want, order drinks from us!"

Unfortunately, alcohol service regulations in Norway are quite strict, and restaurants are required to follow the laws and procedures established by the authorities. Our servers, including those who are currently in training, are instructed to follow these regulations carefully and consistently. We fully understand that these requirements can sometimes feel overly strict or unnecessary, and we sincerely apologize that this left you with the impression of poor service. That was certainly never our intention.
We offer a wide selection of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, including options suitable for various dietary preferences and restrictions. I hope the server attending your table was able to present these alternatives to you.
Our homemade beer bread is available at an additional charge, and our staff are required to inform guests whenever an item or addition involves an extra cost. This is done to ensure transparency and avoid any misunderstandings.
I am sorry that we were unable to provide the experience you were hoping for. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope we will have the opportunity to make it up to you on a future visit. At the same time, I hope our explanation helps provide some context regarding the regulations that we are obliged to follow.
